Élan: energy, style, & enthusiasm
The Élan Ensemble performs music from the 17th–19th centuries in historic venues and museums, bringing modern audiences into the spirit of the musical and social world of past eras.
Elissa Edwards, soprano, and Dr. Anastasia Pike, harp, specialize in creating thematic concerts through the use of original editions and historical performance practices such as ornamentation and expressive gesture. We are passionate about enhancing the intimacy, beauty and significance of historical performance through chamber music.
Our concerts form a unique sensory experience connecting music with the art, literature, culture, politics and philosophy of its time. After copious research, our programs are brought to life through engaging, yet informal concert lectures that illuminate the past and tell a story. In addition to existing concerts, we work with institutions to create complementary musical programs to accompany exhibitions and festivals.
The Élan Concert Series hosts musicians and scholars who bring to life historical performance with elegance and flair. Our goal is to present music in its historical context as an illuminating, inspiring and soul-refreshing tonic for modern times.
